I think that everybody pretty much knows the drill by now - Democratic President is elected and automatically gun and ammo sales skyrocket (along with the attendant prices).

With the looming "fiscal cliff", the economy/jobs, Hurricane Sandy and the aftereffects, Iran/Syria/North Korea/etc., and a myriad of other things, firearms issues seem to be well down on the list of major national concerns right now. Will gun control be pushed to the forefront at some point in the President's term or will it be a non-issue?

lets see, democrat president on his 2nd term, knows he will never be a president after 2016, feinstein, schumer and boxer pulling at the bit to have all those awful civilian military lookalike firearms taken out of the hands of the law abiding citizen. I would say that the feds will try it, and lose their ass in the process.

And that will kill any future chance for the Dems. Won't happen!

It seems (recent times, anyway) that hanging one's hat on passing gun control measures is political suicide.

Many of the people rushing to buy guns already own guns, so their response makes no sense. Gun fanatics are a strange brew

Chicago just passed a $25 per unit additional tax on guns and another $1 per pack on cigs. They will start to treat them similar and start taxing the crap out of firearms.

They will just put a high enough tax to where the average Joe cannot afford to buy.

That will be just the start. Recall the first major tax they put on Cigs and how it's grown over the years ? Just like Cigs, you can tax them to control them.
