1) the frequency of firearms-related violence in this country of over 350 million people is at an all-time low as a percentage of the populace,

But even still, CNN et al do make it their job to hyper-focus on it whenever possible, so...

2) the Congress & Senate, and even that highly insulated POTUS character and his hench-woman in personal liberty and Constitutional guarantee crime-think, Hillary, realize only too well that to go after ever more onerous firearms restrictions is The Third Rail...

We do, after all, have the examples of Canada, Britain and Australia to go by. How many here (Raise your hands now Don't be bashful!) know that, for instance, Remington (among many others, btw...) is marketing a nice camo edition of what is essentially an AR-15, but chambered in suitable deer hunting rounds? With a 5 round clip? One can even get one chambered in the grizzly busting 458 Beowolf or other .450 call cartridges, with enough "Oommpphhh" to drop a charging boar grizz on his teakettle. Not quite what I'd recommend, but the issue is not my personal prefs, nor is it the personal vote-buying "But... We gotz to do Sumthin'!" attitude of those elected ninnies out in DC.

The ones who yowl that "who wants or needs a machine gun to go hunting?" I dunno: who does? And where would I find one even if I wanted to? A full-auto machine gun is strictly illegal, you band of firearms-illiterate gun-haters.
