The treaty, backed by President Obama and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.), fell 5 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed for confirmation as dozens of Senate Republicans objected that it would create new abortion rights and impede the ability of people to home-school disabled children.

While RebelYell is on my list of posters who make my head spin. I do agree this treaty is bad.

America should NEVER EVER enter into a treaty that is intended to require nations to modify its laws as it relates to its own people based on the desires of non-citizens.

This law opens that door. While right now, it is a treaty that would use the American standard as the standard, it opens us to treaties that will cause us to pass laws dealing with American citizens based on some standard that is not our own.

No matter how well intentioned the treaty may be. That is never a good idea.
