Obama holds all the cards and the Republicans know it. John Boehner knows he is defeated and is clearing the decks for a deal by tossing the tea party Republicans overboard and purging key committees of them so the deal can flow through without the conservatives gumming up the works. And Obama is not going to give the Republicans much more than a few small face saving spending cuts. No touching Social Security or Medicare and PBS and Amtrack live on to see another day too. In other words, Obama is finally using his power to let the Republicans know who the boss is. That is what he should have been doing the past 4 years.

That's why Presidential terms should be limited to one 6 year term. Then they can work on their agenda the entire time.

I never thought about it but that might be a good idea!

The only victory for regular people on the fiscal cliff would be going over it.

I'm not quite ready to let there be sung Non Nobis and Te Deum yet - the dead haven't yet been with charity enclosed in clay, some of them are still wandering around La Jolla pumping their own gas. But if I were Boehner I'd be thinking more about covering his retreat - the day is done, the field has been fought and lost.

I'm sure he does feel confident. He's played golf more than he's talked to Boehner since the re-election.
He doesn't seem to be worried at all.

Exactly...

The House Republicans engineered this whole fiscal cliff fiasco in the first place. Part of their obstructionist approach to their attempt to make Obama a one term president. Well, that failed in spectacular fashion. And now their fiscal cliff is awaiting their swan dive into the depths. And as the polls show, the GOP will definitely take the blame for the consequences. The American public in general are not as stupid as the dittoheads who rabidly snarl and snap at every command to hate Obama for whatever made-up daily talking point.

Your post and Skoro's are spot on. It's about time the president started showing some backbone instead of abandoning his base like he did in 2010. If America goes over the cliff the republicans will own it.

Maybe Boehner's meetings at the White House have been over nice home brewed beer? Maybe Boehner and Obama finally have something going. But then there's the one term guy that Boehner has to face too, so, I wouldn't be too gleeful in advance of an agreement.

The only way the one will have any victory is if he has 16 trillion printed and spends it out of pocket. I see no problem with that, since the rest of his papers for life are all fake too. Why quite now over a mere 16 trillion bucks made of funny munny.

Might as well make it 116 trillion bucks eh? Whats the difference?
