Obamacare does not specifically delineate funding for, or expansion of, mental health services. The law mainly focuses on pushing more people into Medicaid, which is a State-administered program subject to budget fluctuations, and assumes that more people with Medicaid coverage will result in more treatment for the mentally ill.

With States slashing budgets for mental services and pushing those costs onto Medicaid, I view this to be a MONUMENTAL FAILURE of our elected leaders, particularly Democrats and Liberals. They had the chance to push mental health services into the forefront of medical treatment with Obamacare, and yet they didn't do it. They simply left it to be handled by Medicaid, which will have to be reformed in the near future because of burgeoning costs.

In light of last Friday's tragedy, it's clear that mental health issues deserve more attention, and on that front, Obamacare is an ABYSSMAL FAILURE.

An opportunity lost. What a shame.

Thanks to idiots who still scream "Obamacare is a government takeover" when in reality, it simply continues to rely on private health insurance system.

I'm pretty sure most American's have never turned a blind eye to the needs of the mentally ill when it comes to funding. The "mandate" is completely separate issue that can logically be discussed on its own merits. However, Mental health funding was never at issue that i'm aware of. So why wasn't it made a core tenet of Obamacare?

Liberals feel that locking someone up in a mental facility violates their rights.

Perhaps you should write to your congress person and senators to expand Obama Care, that either mandates inclusion of mental health care in every plan offered by private insurance company and/or a public plan run by the government that does. Also, to expand Medicare and Medicaid funding to cover the costs.

Please do, since you're missing it.

I'm merely pointing out that it's Too Little, Too Late. Congress had an opportunity to address mental health issues, and it completely dropped the ball. Now that we have a tragedy, we can expect knee jerk reactions instead of a reasoned approach to treating the mentally ill. That vehicle was Obamacare, but it didn't happen, so what can we expect Congress to conjur up in its knee jerk?

Psychiatric evaluations will be covered in a much broader sense under ACA so your post is incorrect.

If you view the cuts to Mental health initiatives such a failure what are you doing about it other than posting partisan hackary a forum?

Spoken like someone with zero healthcare background or education. Just paranoia.

The paranoia is that the MSM is spewing "mental health" issues all over since this shooting.
It has not been verified that this shooter had any record of mental health issues.

Holmes had none.

Knee jerk reaction. Some people think we can weed out potential mass murderers if we had more mental health clinics.
We don't live in a "Minority Report" world. Fear drives extreme measures.
