This illustrates the child-like specious reasoning employed by uneducated rightwingers.
I have a little dog who exemplifies similar reasoning. I take him for a walk. He sees a car or truck, barks at it and it goes away, therefore, in his little brain, it must be his efforts that cause this effect.
No amount of reasoning or talking will convince him otherwise.

Could the question not be asked? Right wing if gun ownership makes everyone safer why is a mother dead when she owned 5? Had she not owned them would 28 people be alive another day?

it is easy to flaw logic.

Putting it into visual context: 14th & U 1988 vs. 2012. Vacant store fronts & barricades vs. roof top bars, boutique shops & chain businesses.

So affluent people commit less violent crime than people in generational poverty?? I had no idea.

Yeah. Tragic irony, isn't it? Deranged idiot gun-freak mother buys guns to protect her from the apocalypse, but then dies anyway when her son simply shoots her with one of the guns. Does that constitute a well-regulated militia?

It is no more ironic than someone who gets ran over by his own car. Life is full of cruel irony. If this young man had no way of getting to that school, this would have been prevented as well. If he had gotten the help he needed, it may have been averted as well. So many things could have been different, if only . . .

But on the other hand, "the gun freak" mom that LEGALLY owned the guns didn't kill anyone, did she? It was her son that didn't legally own a weapon and stole it that did the killing.

The point I was making is that this happens all the time. Children, especially, are shot and killed in homes with guns -- guns that were purchased for protection. Presumably those children did not "steal" the guns. Access to the guns was made too easy by the complete losers who bought them.

Just last week in Rochester, MN, this happened: 19-year-old lives with her grandparents. Comes home late one night. Good ol Grandpa, thinking she's an intruder, shoots her. Twice. Luckily she lived. He owned that gun for protection, but wound up nearly killing his granddaughter.

That is the irony I was speaking of.

There are approximately 30,000 gun deaths in this country each year. About 200-300 of them involve legitimate self-defense. That's less than 1%.
