Nationwide almost 41% of all births are to unmarried mothers, up from 5.3% in 1960 to 40.8% in 2010. In 2010 the vast majority of births to unmarried women was greatest among blacks (73%) and and Hispanic (53%) with Whites and Asians trailing at 39% and 17% respectively.
The greatest problem seems to be the implicatios that these births have on our government and our society:
Children born to unmarried mothers are more likely to grow up in a single-parent household, experience instability in living arrangements, live in poverty, ...have socio-emotional problems....are more likely to have low educational attainment, engage in sex at younger ages,....have a premarital birth,....(and) (A)s young adults,.....are more likely to be idle (neither in school nor employed), have lower occupational status and income, and have more troubled marriages and divorces than those born to married parents.
These women suffer many disadvantages compared to their married counterparts including lower incomes and education levels, and a dependence on welfare assistance. Single mother with children find it difficult to attract a successful male spouse due to already having a child from a previous relationship.
It's hard to decide who's worse. Stupid women who breed children they can't feed with idiots or greedy bankers expecting a handout after they've messed up our pensions.
We were way too successful in de-stigmatising unwed motherhood. Now there are pockets of girls who think it is cool. Shows like Teen Mom don't help. I'm going to get blasted here but.... it all started with the "I don't need a man" litany.
Some unwed Mothers, choose that...because the men are so unworthy. Separate "unwed Mothers" into groups...not by race, but by Socio Economic Status, after all, Angelina Jolie, was an "unwed" Mother, for years...until she married Brad Pitt, I doubt she was ever on public assistance.
In the Philippine Islands if you have a child out of wedlock you are shunned and scorned by society. The government does NOT step in with SSI, HUD sect 8, EBTs, WIC, childcare, Pell grants and the other numerous social support we hand out to irresponsible parents in America. In the PI if you embarrass your family because you cant control yourself you contract your life out overseas somewhere working 7 days a week 12 hour days and send every penny home to support the child. If you arde wondering what has happened to the family in America you can start there.
Insolent 16 YOs who dont want to live under mom and dads roof anymore just need to get knocked up and voila

Comparing a celebrity to the average unmarried mom doesn't carry a lot of weight.

You are correct. There is no longer a stigma attacked to unwed pregnancy in the United States. There's no longer a stigma attached to being on the government dole with welfare, food stamps, and other freebies. Part of that is the government's fault for more or less glamourizing federal freebie programs through their advertising.
This situation reeks of our nation losing its moral compass. There's no longer a right and wrong,...only a lot of shades of gray.
