I'm certain someone raising kids on a minimum wage job would pay no taxes and certain they'd be in the group that gets money back they didn't pay in. So, let's say someone is working a minimum wage job and has one child. Does anyone know what their tax return would look like? What credits they'd get?

I suspect when you consider their tax return, they may be doing significantly better than minimum wage. I'd like to know how much better.

Thanks.

I remember watching a show on a family with 12 kids that was living on under $50K a few years back. By the time you considered all the tax credits and hand outs they got, it turned you'd need to make 2.5 times that to have the same lifestyle. Things are not always as they seem at first glance.

So, how bad off is someone trying to raise a child on a minimum wage job after all is said and done? And, why does it matter if the money is given to them in the form of wages or EIC or the per child tax credit or WIC or food stamps?

Minimum wage jobs were never intended to support a family but it seems to me there is help out there for those trying to do so.
Why are we trying to change every minimum wage job into a job that can support a family when what we need to do is help the families trying to support themselves on minimum wage jobs. The high school kids in those jobs don't need to make enough to raise a family because they're not trying to raise one.

Because according to Republicans the lazy poor people are responsible for the national debt.

Minimum wage jobs or pay this is slightly above minimum wage is becoming the new norm in our country. Again because Republicans hate it when people have pensions or wages they can live on.

The only people who earn their money in the Republican world is the CEO

You need to take a chill pill. Your anger is clouding your judgement.

I know a lot of Republicans and none of them believe what you posted.

How does the Federal government control the pensions of private corporations ?
When a company decides to end it's pension program for new employees, does it have to get permission from Congress to do it ?

Congress decides on the min wage and it takes a majority to do that which includes Democrats.

The last time min wage was raised in Congress it was Dem Senate and Dem House.
Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just where did the Republicans come in and end private pensions and what did they do to min wage ?

Actually if the children of Sam Walton are living off billions that are the personal income of the Walton family I don't see how it's any of our business.

Class envy. Everyone wants to be a rich fat cat who doesn't have to work and gets checks deposited to their account. If they can't have it then they don't want anyone to have it.

I always wonder why neo-cons are so supportive of corporate welfare (ie. massive tax breaks and allowing a Walmart to have so many employees on food stamps and forms of health care assistance) but hate when poor people use assistance to get by. It's a very interesting paradox.

Where am I in support of corporate welfare ?

Congress totally supported TARP..both sides I might add.
The Dems are no better favoring their corporate buddies.

If you haven't noticed the 1% are running the Federal government now.
I'm not fool enough to think either side is for the "working man".

Laws are written by lobbyists and passed by Congress.
Shouldn't that tell you something ?

Even with a Dem administration in 2009 and 2010 nothing changed. Corporate welfare continued and even became worse with billions going to fund solar companies of Democratic donors with no regard to the viability of that company and taxpayers lost billions as each of them went belly up.

So don't give me this "neo-con" BS. The Dems are bought and paid for just as much as you think the Repubs are.

The left seem to think everyone on government assistance is on the edge of starvation or death.
Meanwhile billions upon billions are being bilked by people who are not in need. The government is aware of it and acknowledges it even. Yet they do nothing to reign it in. What they do instead is change their reports so that journalists don't see it anymore to report to us.

It's only the norm if you accept it as the norm. If you're worth more than minimum wage, then go find a job that pays more than minimum wage. The problem here is that people want more than minimum wage for jobs that require no skill. If you want higher pay, go get higher skills.

However, my point was that there is already help out there for families trying to live on minimum wage. The solution isn't to change minimum wage so that it becomes something it was never intended to be. The solution is to help those who are earning minimum wage and trying to support families (prefferably to gains the skills they need to actually support their family on thier own) and that help is already there.

It's just greed to expect employers to pay you more than you're worth just because you want them to.
