Cheney's Wife Says Husband, Obama Related
Lynne Cheney Discovers Family Ties

WASHINGTON -- It turns out Vice President Dick Cheney and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama are closer than they appear.

Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife, told MSNBC that her husband and Obama are eighth cousins.

She said she discovered the long-ago ties between the two while researching her ancestry for her latest book, "Blue Skies, No Fences," a memoir about growing up in Wyoming.

Her book doesn't mention the ancestral ties.

According to her spokeswoman, Obama is a descendent of Mareen Duvall. This French Huguenot's son married the granddaughter of a Richard Cheney, who arrived in Maryland in the late 1650's from England.

"This is such an amazing American story that one ancestor ... could be responsible down the family lines for lives that have taken such different and varied paths as Dick’s and Barack Obama," she told MSNBC.

A spokesman for Obama offered a tongue-in-cheek response: "Every family has a black sheep."

Do you think they'll become best friends now? Maybe they could run together! Then you would have support from the right wingnuts AND the left wingnuts! The only people left out would be the moderates and who needs them.

That's not very kind. Just because he's grumpy and isn't very accurate with a shotgun, is no reason to call him a "black sheep"...He said it was an accident.

It'll be interesting to see how Obama does with a shotgun when HE'S veep. If he gets that far.

Ha, a democrat with a shotgun eh? I'm sure if he or hilary make very far, none of us will have shotguns. Unless, god-willing, Bill Richardson get the dem nomination. He has the highest score with the NRA even amongst the Republicans.

Justin don't worry the Dems don't want your guns. As for the Obama / Cheney link it sounds plausible since he was born in Lincoln, Nebraska & Obama's mother was born in Witchita, Kansas which really isn't a huge distance.
