de Blasio just doesn't care, or is it just the nature of good ole NY politics?
Quote:
“Although the charges announced today are certainly very serious, I want to note that I’ve always known Shelly Silver to be a man of integrity, and he certainly has due rights and I think that we should let the process play out here,” he told a scrum of reporters, according to the New York Observer.
Silver was hit with a surprise indictment this morning from US Attorney Preet Bharara, who charged him with five counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, conspiracy, and extortion. The 35-page complaint, alleging that he received millions in “kickbacks” by referring real estate investors to law firms, stunned New York’s political community.
“Allegations are allegations, charges are charges, and there has to be a process to determine the outcome,” de Blasio, who Silver sided during funding battles with Albany, said. “I think, separately, it’s a true statement that he’s done a lot for New York City and I value that, certainly.”
I don't see what the issue with what de Blasio said is. He basically says he knows the guy, always thought highly of him, and then states that we should let the legal process do its job and have that inform us of the outcome.
It sounded like a typical response anyone would expect.
"For many years, New Yorkers have asked the question: How could Speaker Silver, one of the most powerful men in all of New York, earn millions of dollars in outside income without deeply compromising his ability to honestly serve his constituents?” Preet Bharara, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, asked at a news conference with F.B.I. officials. “Today, we provide the answer: He didn’t.”

De Blasio appears to have a significantly different opinion of Sheldon than the Feds.

That would be like saying the people who lived next door to a serial killer had a different view than what the authorities do. De Blasio was responding in the fashion anyone would do that had known a person that has just been arrested for wrongdoing.
Dems are criminals. Why would one criminal condemn another?
The same could be said about Republicans, or politicians in general.
