It's all about Medicare. The eligibility age has to change over time.

Our system of "very loosely regulated capatilism" has doomed our economy to the point where effective change may be politically impossible. I would vote for "European Style" capatilism every time, along with effective fraud and abuse measures. . . . .that makes me an "enemy of the people" according to many on this forum!

You're so right. The eligibility age should be zero, ie, Medicare for all. This is truly the most cost effective solution, counterintuitive as it may be.

Agreed in principle, but the US consumer was only intially a great beneficiary. Don't forget that the US consumer also needs a job in order to be able to consume, and as those jobs vanish, nothing is cheap any more - not even $ 100 iPhones.

In the end this is a rush to the bottom for the vast majority of people, with a very minute few on top making out like bandits.

Can't do that half the country would starve to death because the hand outs would stop.
