I've sometimes felt that we've been receding intellectually as a whole when the likes of Springer, Povich and so on had such large followings, but this sh*it is waaaay over the top.

A pedophile's delight, provided this story is accurate.

Not political but surely controversial (at least I hope it is).

Warning: Photos and vids that may be difficult to view.

"Something wicked this way comes… across the pageant stage, wearing a tiny bejeweled $2000 dress, hairspray-lacquered locks, a spray tan and fake teeth (yes, fake teeth)....."

..."You have been warned. Here then, ten reasons why Toddlers & Tiaras is yet another ominous omen of the end of civilization as we know it. Let the horror be unleashed:...."

This is nothing new, I'm surprised you haven't heard about it.

Kid pageants have existed forever - heck, I even did a few as a child, and I'm 36 years old! The show is a trainwreck, yeah, but the type of trainwreck you just keep guiltily watching. I guess it's much like Keeping up withe the Kardashians or The Real Housewives of whatever, although I don't watch those shows. But I do watch T&T, and make no apologies for it! Some of these parents are cuckoo, the kids are often HUGE brats, and you really have to laugh at the insanity of it all.

As for the old "pedophile's delight" thing, people spew that nonsense on the imdb boards weekly. Actually, that's become a running joke among those of us who regularly post there. I'm certainly not a pedophile, and trust me - the only men actually involved in these pageants are either stage dads or...... well, let's just say they most likely bat for the other team.

It's just entertainment, and you can turn the channel if you don't like it. And for anyone who says they're being sexualized, I used to be a child figure skater, wearing competition outfits & makeup much like theirs. Why didn't people have a problem with that? I guess because it was attached to an athletic endeavor, so we're willing to look beyond the pageantry aspects. At least I was getting exercise! In that respect, I agree figure skating is a more worthwhile activity; but to each their own, as long as nobody is actually being abused.

P.S. Until you actually watch an episode, I don't think your opinions hold much water anyway. Do you often rely on other people to tell you how to think? Just watch ONE, and then come back with your review.

Sure it is... but crap can be fun to watch sometimes! I have a rather intellectual job, so don't (always) want anything groundbreaking or educational when I'm relaxing in front of the boob tube. Isn't that why they call it a boob tube?

But the question here isn't the quality of programming, it's more about the appropriateness of these pageants. In my personal opinion, it's a bit over the top but mostly harmless fun.

I don't know. If I want stupid I can just turn on pretty much any reality TV show. Most of them won't creep me out.

As I said, to each his/her own... and I don't find it that "creepy," with the exception of a few specific families. Personally, I think the Kardashians are much creepier!
