And it’s killing the base of the party. I mean, 26 percent favorability rating for the party right now. It ought to be telling them something. So, instead of attacking me or whoever speaks like I do, look in the mirror and realize, ‘How are we going to win the next election?”

Will Colon speak out about his Democrats booing Paul Ryan yesterday?

Powell is correct, but unfortunately, the party is listening to the ignorant in the party now, and has shifted far , far away from mainstream America.

The birthers and most of the fringe have found a permanent crazy house in the republican party. What few moderates are left there are totally out gunned...literally.

If Obama was white Powell would have nothing to say. Because Obama is half black Powell has plenty to say and it is obvious he supports skin color than the GOP.

Powell is an idiot? OK! As a lib, I'm happy with that statement. Please keep disrespecting your most admired leaders. They still can give us problems, but we are now quite adept at crippling clowns and yahoos.

Powell's vision is clear, and he is right.

The birthers are nothing but a scampering little monkey in a bright red suit jumping around on a big old elephant. The monkey gets the attention, but only when it's on the elephant's back. If it ever jumps down, it's just a little monkey running around on the ground that nobody wants to get next to. And since monkeys only live for a few years and elephants live for a century, the elephant doesn't give a damn what the monkey does. Powell is a lifelong Republican, and he has seen more than his share of monkeys and yahoos come and go in his party. Like any good General, he knows when to cut through the BS and set his people straight.

Monkeys are intelligent, birthers are not. They solidify America's backwoods, hillbilly perception of rural America, which is at the core of luny stuff like this.

Colin Powell looks out for Colin Powell. You don't reach his rank in the military without being political, even if you never run for office.

He was on board with GWB and the Bush doctrine when it made sense for him to be so. When it was no longer popular, he retroactively changed his views.

It was obvious early on that Obama was going to win in '08 against a weak candidate in McCain - that was an easy choice for Powell. With all the built in advantages the encumbant has, it was not an act of political courage to back his guy again in '12.

The best way he can stay relevant and beloved and have a voice in the media right now is to stick his finger in the eye of the GOP. It's really that simple. Heck, Maverick McCain has done that himself for years, he just never completely jumped ship, and was a bit shocked when his media buddies didn't support him for President.

Colin Powell is about making Colin Powell look good, period.
