I totally agree it would cause a break down in morale...especially if two soldiers became close and one was killed during combat

So have civilians working in combat areas, are you saying that these civilians should now be put on the front lines?

If the US were in danger of annihilation, (as Israel has been for its' entire existence) then everyone would certainly be expected to fight, but it isn't.

Why not? The military exists to protect the people. Do not the people therefore have a vested interest in having the military operate effectively and efficiently?

You should have a vested interest.....however, you have nothing to comapre it with in real life, hell, we have a roadie on here tyring to tell us that being a roadie is the same thing as being on the front lines.
Look at it like this, you drive a car/truck/automobile, right.....some type of auto.....

Do you really think you can tell a professional race car driver how they should drive?

So now they have to use up the female military until they're decimated as well.
This!!!! Exactly this. The military is almost out of bright young men to use as cannon fodder. 70% of new applicants are physically unfit and the rest have criminal or drug histories that bar them from a military career. Without a draft you don't really have a choice. If using women in front line combat operations was such a grand idea, why did Gen. Panetta wait until the end of his tenure to make the decision? I doubt any recommendation I had to make about something so controversial would be allowed to stand unless I remained in office to defend it. A decent analogy fails me at this moment but the entire thing stinks of cowardice and desperation. Women won't realize they are being used, cruelly used until they start coming home in body bags in numbers.

The threat of annihilation to Israel is NOT a threat to the US.

I doubt the US relies on Israel to protect it. More like the other way around wouldn't ya think??

There are NO women currently in front line infantry groups and only in theater as attachments to Special OPS groups.

If women can meet the exact physical requirements as men in front line combat groups then go for it. Probably .0001 of all women could meet that standard.

As we have already seen though basic PT standards have already been handicapped for women just to enter the Army.
