The over drugging of our children as well as most adults borders on criminal , IMO.
"Children are concocted as a prime target for early diagnosis of non-existent mental disorders, because in the past, a number of these children, diagnosed and drugged by psychiatrists, went on to kill people as a result of the drugs’ actions on their brains. That’s called irony. It’s also called a crime, in the very real sense that psychiatrists contributed mightily to the killings." The Psychiatric Wolves Attack More Innocent*Children by Jon Rappoport
Jared Laughner was known to be psychotic and extremely delusional, but neither his family or campus authorities where he attended college at the standing or knowledge of how to get him committed....
University faculty around James Holmes knew he was seriously psychotic, was seeing a psychiatrist for his psychosis and possible schizophrenia....
Seung-Hui Cho in Virginia had actually been declared mentally incompetent and court paperwork should have put him on the "no guns" list, but for some unexplained reason the paperwork never go to the authorities who should have received it....
Adam Lanza's mother was contemplating hearing for involuntary psychiatric commitment of her son, but because the process in Connecticut was too unwieldy, she couldn't move fast enough....
Here in Seattle Ian Stawicki's [guy who shot up a cafe/restaurant] family wanted to get him involuntarily committed, be existing WA state statutory commitment laws are so cumbersome and ridiculous, they were unsuccessful
We also have had cases of axe-murders and knife-murders by mentally ill people in Seattle. In case after case, it is the mental health profession that failed, yet the response from the left is to blame the NRA, and ban assault weapons??? WTF?

Failed in what regard?
An individual cannot be involuntarily committed simply for exhibiting untoward behavior or diagnosed as being mentally ill.

Lew Rockwell and his adherents are ample evidence to the validity of the psychiatric profession.
It's a proven fact that Rush Limbaugh devotees are actually acting in a drug induced coma thanks to the liberal prescription of masses of hallucingenic mind altering drugs by the AMA.

Wutitiz, I dont believe it was the mental health profession that failed. It was acatully the LAW passed by liberals seeking to "protect" the mentally ill, that makes it nearly impossible to commit a person against their will.
the LAW blocks Mental Health doctors from doing what they know is the best thing. You cant blame a dr whos hands are tied.
There is blame. it is the law that is to blame. It is sick and disgusting yet here we are with laws that keep criminally insane people in the public with no restrictions yet the people who got those laws passed, are now ignoring that fact and trying to do a massive gun grab.

True, and I would be the first to admit that I am far from knowledgable regarding this topic. But I think the OP's link does a good job of providing the context for how those laws came about. Homosexuality used to be a disorder in the DSM (diagnostic manual); now homophobia is. Last year they were trying to make mourning (say over the death of a spouse) a disorder. I am not sure whether they did it. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/25/he...ving.html?_r=0
I'm not sure that the profession is a criminal enterprise, but I think that it is bankrupt one. This goes back a long way. Here's an interesting article on the history of the 'frontal lobotomy.' Elliot Valenstein on the history of the lobotomy

Of course, lobotomy now seems like a medically sanctioned form of torture.... The person performing the surgery usually couldn’t even see what he was cutting, and doctors considered patients "cured" after minimal follow-up
