I believe in both the US Constitution and God's Word. Freedom of religion is an important part of the Constitution and that's why it was placed in the First Amendment. The baker can't be forced to violate his Christian faith. Thank God for the Constitution and the Bible. Geys can bake their own cakes, they are free to do so.
It's illegal because the law says it is. It's as simple as that.
You may think the law shouldn't say that, but the fact that it does is a fact. The law also says it's illegal for a business open to the public to discriminate against straight people, or black people, or white people, or Christian people.
Different situation - different ethic. One is a private person making a private decision, the other is a person engaging in regulated, public commerce.
So you are okay with laws that force one group of people (business owners) that force them to act against their will but not other people (customers).
By the way, the business owner does not work for the government and by definition is making a private decision. Whether you think so or not.
Just so we know, you endorse the violation of one person's rights because you don't agree with their decision. Hell of a way to run a society.
Where in the Constitution of the U.S. or Oregon does it say business owners give up their rights by virtue of owning a business??????

If I hate Chinese people, and therefore will not patronize their restaurants, I violate no law. However, if the owner of the Chinese restaurant, for example, despises Jews, he will not be legally able to forbid them from entry onto his premises. Why?

Should we pass a law stating who can you associate with and who you can't? That's what this law does. Why is it okay for you people to use force to make this guy do business with someone he chooses not to?
Who got hurt here? No one. Who did the baker victimize? No one. So why do people want him punished for peacefully conducting business that never hurt anyone?

Right wingers aren't allowed to practice discrimination in business matters no matter how much they believe in storybook characters out of bronze-age myth. Actually, this is playing out in Westchester county, NY by the HUD/housing and urban development. Hud is using Westchester as their 'sandbox' to spead their 'zoning equates to discrimination" to the rest of the county.
It bears reading what the feds are attempting in westchster county and the cost to the local taxpayers.
