This list of store closings on a national scale will result in a lot of lost jobs but they will result in a lot more jobs lost than those at the stores that are closing. We must always remember that so many people who work for companies that supply those going out of business will also lose jobs.

Yes, the Obama people keep telling us that we are recovering but this doesn't look much like a recovery to me.

Best Buy – estimated closing of 200-250 stores.
Sears Holding Corp – estimated closing of 175-225 Kmart stores and 100-125 Sears stores.
J.C. Penney – estimated closing of 300-350 stores.
Office Depot – estimated closing of 125-150 stores.
Barnes & Noble – estimated closing of 190-240 stores.
GameStop – estimated closing of 500-600 stores.
OfficeMax – estimated closing of 150-175 stores.
RadioShack – estimated closing of 450-550 stores.

Obama

LOL...What does that have to do with Obama. Failed/Outdated business models have nothing to do with a President's economic policy. Seriously, look at the list you posted. I'm suprised those dinosaurs aren't closing all their stores...Roy, what you need to remember is that Obama has a smig under 4 years left in the Whitehouse and no amount crying will change that.

Sit tight, the Bots will be here shortly to tell us how great things are and how much worse they could have been if Obozo was not in charge.

Are you advocating a government bail out of retail companies who can no longer compete, especially with internet giants like Amazon?

The only thing I have ever bought at Amazon is a few books but many of those companies don't compete with Amazon for books. What else do they sell?

Hate to break this to you, but Amazon is a maze of small business owners.

FAIL.

You can't blame this on Obama, but you can blame it on the government. Brick and mortar retailers that had been around for decades started falling like dominos in the second half of the last decade once broadband connections became prevalent. I am usually for lower taxes, but wish the government would tax online retailers in order to level the playing field. I don't want to live in a world where there are no brick and mortar stores left other than Wal-Mart, and we'll be there in 10 years if the current trends keep up. Tech geeks dream of a world where online retail is the only retail, but for some people that is simply less convenient.

No, these stores closing are not a result of Obama or the recession but rather more people shopping online. We need to decide as a nation whether our brick and mortar retailers are worth saving and what actions should be taken to save them, or whether we should let them go the way of the dodo.

Well it's not his fault!!!

If we could only raise taxes and spend more $$$ , more socialist "stimulus", more regulations, more constitution violating, more illegal Mexicans, more nannying, and definitely more gun grabbing....

It's obviously those old white "bitter clingers" are to blame!!!

When KMart & Sears merged during W's presidency, one analyst called it simply "a larger cadaver vs two smaller cadavers". Add in, online ordering will continue to take market share from stores, and we'll see fewer stores per capita in 20, 40, 60 years, no matter the POTUS.

I do agree with bchris02, internet purchases should be taxed, but while it would slow the transition, it would not stop it.
