Well I guess unsurprisingly the House Majority Leader is on board with the Obama admin's targeted drone program.

This should make Obama more palatable to neo-cons.

John Boehner supports White House position on drone strikes.

The left and right have no differences whatsoever and 100% agree on anything dealing with national security and the Patriot Act. They've been like that under both Bush and Obama.

Have you not been paying attention ?
Every single extension of the Patriot Act that has come up since 2009 was through both chambers of Congress and on the President's desk with no debate and within 1 day or two.

"When an individual has joined al-Qaida — the organization responsible for the murder of thousands of Americans — and actively plots future attacks against U.S. citizens, soldiers, and interests around the world, the U.S. government has both the authority and the obligation to defend the country against that threat."

That is the quote supposodly Bonerman is supporting. If he is he should be tried for treason and shot. Is the government actively droning say crips and bloods who have killed who knows how many US citizens and are plotting to kill more and claiming they have a right to do so? Would you support that? We defend our country against many threats without droning US citizens without due process. The government has stepped over the line here. The entire problem with this whole thing is the memo states that one only need to be associates of AQ or a leader and one not need be planning an imminent threat. We're talking US citizens here. So if your buddy happens to be hanging out with AQ guess what your an associate. According to many swooners that means you should be killed to save us all.

Well, the rationale (whether one likes it or not) is that war or warlike conditions exist between the US and Al Q. Unless captrued in the US, nobody would expect a US citizen joining up with the German forces in WWII to be given the full "due process" treatment, right? That being said, I for one would much prefer a better system of oversight, preferably with some sort of judicial branch involvement.

US soil is of course a different kettle of fish - everybody present is entitled to full Constitutional protection, citizen or not. Or should be, at least.

Join Al Qada.
Get blowed up.

I have no issue with that.

I do think the Obama whitehouse has been less than up front on details. I am not comfortable with the their explination that came to light recently.

I do think Congress has a role in this as they are the ones who constitutionally define treason.

and I want really clear wording that insures no one in America will get dronebombed.

BUT if a person is not in this country and is a member of a known terrorist group, then that person needs a bomb dropped on their head no matter what their citizenship status is.

Yes we would expect a US citizen in German forces to be given a right to a fair trial before being killed by the government. Once again, we are not talking about killing in self defense, or on the battlefield. You simply don't let one branch of government have that kind of ultimate power. And the Obama memo specifically points out that just because these killings were out of country, he doesn't consider that a standard to be met.

Boehner is a neo-con liberal.

Like 95% of our "representatives", he is a traitor.

Somebody being shot for picking up arms and fighitng against US forces in France on D Day is a totally different ballgame than our president or his deciders saying Joe is an "associate" of AQ so yeah go send a drone his way and kill him.

"New York (CNN) -- Federal authorities running a sting operation arrested a 21-year-old Bangladeshi man, who came to the U.S. on a student visa and was allegedly planning to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank of New York with what he believed was a 1,000-pound bomb, officials said. Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis was detained Wednesday after an alleged attempt to detonate the device, which was inert and part of an elaborate investigation by federal authorities and NYPD detectives.
Prosecutors say Nafis was apparently motivated by al Qaeda and traveled to the United States in January under the pretext of attending college in Missouri in order carry out "a terrorist attack on U.S. soil" and to recruit members to form a terrorist cell."

Man arrested after plotting Federal Reserve bomb, authorities say - CNN.com

What if you happened to live next door to this guy and maybe hung out and watched football or barbecue with him once in a while? Maybe you worked with him? If some clown in the government "associated" you with him they could target you to be kill.ed no questions asked. Sure now they say not on US soil but that is now. Prior to this memo being leaked you couldn't targe US citizens anywhere. How far will they go? I guess as far as they can push it.
