NBC news just reported that the Pope is resigning. Any thoughts on this?

I didn't know they could resign. I just looked it up and evidently they CAN, because he just DID, but the last time was over 500 years ago.

I know this should be Big Huge Shocking News, but I can't help but think "Who cares?" I'm not Catholic though.

Golden parachute? Pope retirement community for one? Carpal Tunnel from too much pope waving?
Gets to keep the popemobile? Can't keep those whites he has to wear, white enough? Vatican too drafty? Candle smell makes him nauseous? Sick of dealing with those bratty US nuns? Wants to be a Wal-Mart greeter because there is no pope pension?

I'm joking, of course, but his resignation has SNL skit written all over it.

The next pope is prophesied in the bible to be the last. This is a sign of the last times.

Will the next pope be the last?

What's the Mayan calendar have to say about that?

The last pope to resign was Gregory XII in 1415.

If St. Malachi was correct, the next pope will be an Italian ("The Roman") and will be the last pope.
