In other words isn't this really just the same old stubborn bunch of paranoid conservative Obama-haters and Birthers from last time, disgruntled that the "uppity, muslim, socialist, Kenyan (with Nazi tendencies)" still occupies the White House... so now they've simply "upped the ante" (aka, are embracing their guns and apocalyptic religion)?
Or are there also any minority folks who did vote for Obama, and who aren't gun "enthusiasts", but have suddenly decided to turn "prepper"?
Might shock some of the partisan axe-grinders here but there were a lot of preppers that pointed to the ineptitude of the Hurricane Katrina response and said "I told you so".
Many preppers are actually anti-government....the fact that Obama is in the whitehouse is just making a lot of you defensive that they just don't like Obama.
You also need to factor in the big financial collapse scare of 2008 which further spurred the movement....which you guys are seeming to ignore and instead are tying it "Obama".
Guns etc. have been a mandatory staple of prepping for a long time.
I suppose it was obama that was in the whitehouse back when everyone was buying their nuclear fallout shelters and burying them in their backyards?
I can remmber people when I was a kid who thoguht the worlds would end from alot of things and where what peoplecall preppers now days.I think like mnay tings reality shows and the ecomny just brings them to forefront.
Yep. When preppers refer to "SHTF," they're not talking about tornadoes or earthquakes. Their fantasies involve some combination of financial collapse, commodity shortages, and rampaging hordes of poor urbanites invading their peaceful rural counties in search of toilet paper and Obamaphones.
Hence the emphasis on guns 'n' ammo.
Maybe you should talk to some of the shop owners in LA about the riots? Explain to them their fantasies about how the police wouldn't abandon them to defend themselves.
Unless your a moron everyone is a prepper.....Car, health, home, renters insurance? You just PREPARED for the STHF ( and if you don't think cancer,or a bad wreck or your house burning down too equal the feces hitting the rotateing air mover your a moron as well) .....Spare tire and jack? You are prepared.....Bottled water, a bag of crackers, storm celler, Fire/earthquake escape plan from you abode? You're a prepper.....And if you say you don't have ANYTHING like that you are a friggin lier!!!!
You can say that again. We "prep" at my house as in we keep stockpiles of food, water, batteries, etc... on hand in case there is a natural disaster (not likely around here), or a prolonged power outage.
Then when something happens the mateo's of the world are going to be at your doorstep becsue they don't have even the basics like water. I commented in the threads about Sandy questioning why so many of these people didn't even have the common sense to store a little bit of water knowing this storm was coming.

Interesting how many of the 'preppers' posting just here are also gun nuts and anti-Obama. And yeah, it's kinda like the RWNJ's own private version of Harold Camping's Rapture, or all the 2012 New Age hysteria, naturally with a whole new bunch of 'entrepreneurs' and snake oil salesmen to match.
Speaking of which, stay tuned for my upcoming books, "12 Easy Ways to Cook Earthworms, Rats and Strays", soon to be followed with "How to Recycle Spent Ammo Casings for Fun and Profit"!
