Healthcare costs have skyrocketed because we have insurance CEOs to pay out and every hospital wants to have an HDTV in every single one of their rooms. It also doesn't help that our doctors spend years of their lives in expensive schooling that can be condensed to be more affordable and less time consuming.
and you think OUR government would be any cheaper...
yes an individual currently pays.....about 25% of a premium...but that same indivual (if they are a taxpayer) will end up paying 3-5 times as much under singlepayer
profits of insurance have NOTHING to do with it
and most hospitals are not making much profit...infact many are closing...many doctors are closing thier doors
Ventu Medical Group has filed for bankruptcy, closing its doors to more than 1,000 patients.
even France is going BROKE on their health care system....the spent 200 billion to cover 65 million (their population)
canada has a NHC,,,and its starting to PRIVITIZE
germany is in the RED,
less than 1/3 of our population is taxpayers...you want all covered by a MINORITY???
it costs half in other countryies, because they DENY SERVICE
the POINT is that there is NO WAY (unless liberals are willing to talk about getting rid of the INCOME tax and going to a consumption tax) to pay for a singlepayer system in america
look at medicaid ( our quazi singleplayer) (federal AND state paid(so its a twopayer )it COSTS 320 BILLION FEDERAL dollars (have no clue what EACH of the states ends up chipping in on TOP of that) just to cover about 30-40 million people( and that's NOT the most costly demographic(the elderly))...so to cover the 320 MILLION people in our population..at that rate, would be around 3-4 trillion..that's why I give a larger window of 2-5 trillion...and remember many , many doctors are refusing to take medicare/caid because IT DOEST PAY ENOUGH to cover THEIR bills
and who will get hit with that cost..the taxpayer...the WORKER(according to the IRS 110 million taxfilers average year.(and of those 47% get nearly everything back and those are the LOWERS earners)..but using the 105 million to divide into the 2-5 trillion would cost the average taxpayer 20-60k a year..can you as a taxpaying worker of poor/working/middleclass afford a 20k annual bill on top of all your other taxes???? I certainly cant
not to mention, europeans in general are HEALTHIER than americans,,,they dont eat the GARBAGE we do, and they actually WALK, and BIKE to work...they shop at the LOCAL market and get what they NEED, for (what we would call) their dormitory size refrigerators,,htye get out on weekends and do things like volksmarches, etc
we dont allow the kids to pay outside anymore, we are more interested in nintendo, texting, and eating "boxed" food, (and lets not forget our 'southern' food (very fatty))
Cherry picking and dead out of date links from years ago....Canada's heath care system is just fine and certainly beats yours by a huge margin. The only way you could possibly compete is to get rid of private insurers altogether...They are the millstone.

How many; breast biopsies can be preformed, treatments for childhood leukemia, medications prescribed for MS, etc....can this buy?
Health Insurance CEO Paid $106 Million. Feel Better?

In all, the CEOs of America's 10 largest health insurance companies made $228.1 million in salary and stock options during 2009, according to the liberal advocacy group Health Care For America Now.

(That's enough to buy health insurance for at least 47,284 people, based on figured cited in this Kaiser Family Foundation survey on average premiums.)
Since 2000, those CEOs have received slightly less than $1 billion in compensation, the group said.

Sorry, profit matters very much. Healthcare is not like buying a car, it shouldn't be for profit - somethings, like medical care should be provided on a not-for-profit basis.
Also looking at your numbers you expand the mortgage/lease/fixed costs over the entire population. They are fixed. The mortgage is the same whether 100 or 10,000 people use the facility.
All I see in looking at your numbers is blatant manipulation and distortion to point a spin on your viewpoint.
Oh yeah, the Canadian Healthcare System is doing just fine; your 2006 article is as relevant today as is talking about an article about Bush.
1) Subtract from the total cost the total premiums currently being paid to insurance companies, and
2) Subtract from that total cost the profits health insurance / hospitals etc. make
My guess is you take those out of the equation, along with allowing medicaid etc. to negotiate for bulk prescription pricing and the total bill will be radically less than what people pay today, government and private insurance together.
They don't like to look at it that way because then it doesn't there agenda.

wow talk about a lie
Kaiser..super far left
and let's fact check
most premiums for family health insurance range in 15k-20k range
47k times 15k =705,000,000 700 million
47k times 20k =940,000,000....940 million
so what is that 228 million lie about enough to insure 47k
even if you use the '''single coverage''' its still 300 million...certainly not 228 million
who cares if some ceo got millions ...in a TRILLIONS of dollar care costs
