Geez another extreme. Of course there is going to be "some" correlation.
Just because there have been anecdotal cases where criminals have been stopped by armed citizens doesn't mean the net effect of an armed society is that crime rates fall. As far as anybody knows (and I'm not claiming this to be true), for every crime stopped by a law abiding, toting citizen there are ten committed that wouldn't have been committed if guns weren't so easily available.
I would also say the increase in technology is a factor. Crime rates peaked in 1990-1991 which was right before the mass explosion of digital tech. Technology in the 2010s is light years ahead of what it was in the early nineties - meaning that more crimes get solved, more of them are stopped, more victims of violent crime are saved in the hospital, and such.
Some attribute it in large part to the legalization of abortion ~20 years before the drop started.
Eh, I'm not too fond of that theory. It smacks of eugenics to me. I suppose it could be true and I would believe in it if the evidence was overwhelming but I hope it's not true.

Hey it may not make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but I buy it.
People (or potential people) who were aborted ~20 years ago would presumably be around ~20 years old and probably low income. Sounds like the ultimate criminal demographic to me.

So low income = prone to crime? Even if it was true, I'm not a utilitarian and I don't think it would justify abortion.
Generally speaking, the guy who had 20 guns may now have 25.If he wasn`t comitting crimes before there`s no reason to think that him owning 5 more will make him start shooting people.Bad theory.
Are we talking about more people with guns, or have the armed people just expanded their collections? (No snark - I'd like to know, but my Google-fu seems weak today.)
Fewer and fewer households own guns. The majority of households don't own a gun. Gun ownership is declining.
