I'm sure conservatives will hate this, but i thought it was worth looking at.

Steven Brill - The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - 02/21/13 - Video Clip | Comedy Central

Also, here's the very long investigative report that Brill did for TIME:
Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us | TIME.com

A few highlights:

- It's not a true free-market, in that many customers can't reasonably shop around for the best prices, nor can they opt out of the market without putting themselves or their family's lives in peril.

- If you don't have insurance, you will be billed around 11x (eleven!) what the actual costs are. Even though insurance gets a huge discount, they are usually still getting grossly overcharged, as well.

- Non-profits are VERY lucrative for the people who control them, but not necessarily for the nurses and doctors.

It's a long read, almost 25,000 words. Very good article on our broken health care system.

Yes, I was surprised that actual journalism occurred in America. TIME is usually trash.
