You have a right to be stupid, ignorant, retarded, racist, or whatever, you have a right to be intelligent, well-minded, wealthy, poor, etc. so I agree with him. Thats not a insult, an insult would be saying "In America, everyone is stupid".
Stupid isn't a right. It's a condition. And there's no cure. Those afflicted will take it to the grave.
That's completely debatable, one can reject any ideal of education or knowledge their entire life; does that make them stupid or they just wanted to be stupid? Its sort of like how sometimes I see thread on this forum that may say something that I may not want to read, so what do I do? I don't click on the thread and decide to remain ignorant upon that particular subject. So essentially I wanted to remain ignorant on that topic, but if I wanted to be educated on the topic its only a click away. So yeah, I have right to be informed or ignorant on topics.

Yup, and in fact I don't even think any ''minority'' is truly ''free and equal'' until they have just as much right to be stupid, ignorant, racist, etc., as anyone else (without their race or culture being thrown back at them)!
There's a difference between stupidity and ignorance:
Ignorance is you don't know, stupidity is you don't want to know.
It's not a condition, it's a way of life for some people.
Birthers come immediately to mind.
