I can't really distinguish the two, except their party affiliation.

Can you give examples of them

By conservative Democrat, do you mean someone like Charlie Christ?
By liberal Republican do you mean someone like Dwight D. Eisenhower?

You will need to define those groups for me to vote.

I think it comes down to social issues.

A conservative Democrat would be prevalent in Latino, immigrant, and African-American communities, where social conservative views on issues like gay marriage and abortion exist but financial situations lead the people to vote liberal. A liberal Republican might have lenient views on such issues, but is more concerned with his wealth to stray from the Republican party.

I think conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans are pretty common and don't get much attention (understandably).

Yes. Very often a huge difference on social issues. Liberal Republicans tend to be pro-choice whereas conservative Democrats are often pro-life. Liberal Republicans are usually urban, and often from the Northeast. They’re more open to gun control than rural conservative Democrats.

One is conservative (the Dem), and the other is liberal (the Repub). The party doesn't mean anything.

Yup, huge difference between Liberal and Conservative, no difference between Republican and Democrat.
