And you should see what Obamacare and the Social Security tax increase did to my paycheck.
Private sector employers being furloughed are usually given the option to use vacation pay to fill in the gap -- won't the government allow federal employees to do the same? We have the option to just have a shorter paycheckk or use vacation time to keep it the same.
We will not be allowed to use vacation time, or get any unemployment. So basically, were cut and thats it. Its a bargaining tool that was put into the sequestration to use against the other party. Its just a bunch of BS as far as I am concerned. My wife and I will make it through ok, but some federal employees, working paycheck to paycheck, or single parents will have a extremely hard time loosing pay. Just sayin.
But look at how much more vacation time and better pensions you get. A lot of private industry employees have to pay into a retirement plan on top of social security if they plan to retire. It's kind of hard for those who work in the private sector to feel really bad for government employees who have had it very plush.
There are private sector employees who get only one week vacation and many fewer holidays than the government employees.
I pay into a retirement plan just like you, and I pay into social security. The federal government is not going to take care of me in retirement, they don't do much of that anymore. I have to plan it on my own. (Things changed for federal employees about 30 years ago so they pay more into retirement and have to pay into social security.) I'l get through this just as any of you will. I am just saying, its not the easy ride it used to be. Unless your a politician on capital hill!

You should do at least a little research before posting and claiming things of which you absolutely NOTHING about. You wouldn't make such a fool of yourself.

I agree. I have to contain myself when I see posts like that.

I know some federal government employees. They really like the benefits.
The very early retirement age isn't what private sector employees have. Plus there are a number of extra paid holidays. The government pays a lot more toward benefits that most of us in the private sector must pay ourselves.
Really nice vacation and sick time benefits besides all those extra federal holidays:
VACATION/SICK DAYS: For your first 3 years of service you earn vacation at 4 hours per pay period (26 pay periods per year) for a total of 13 days. After 3 years of service you earn 6 hours per pay period and adjusted to total 20 days per year. After 15 years service you earn 8 hours per pay period or 26 days a year. For part-time employees, leave earned is prorated. You may accumulate 30 days and carry it over from year to year. However, any time earned over the 30 days you must use or lose. Sick leave is accrued at 4 hours per pay period (13 days per year) and does not change with length of service. Leave Bank and Leave Transfer programs provide the voluntary option of donating annual leave and, in turn, applying to use leave from the bank in medical or family emergencies. The Family and Medial Leave Act makes it easier for you to use sick leave to care for family members up to a 13-day maximum per year.

I think it's the politicians who should be given unpaid leaves more than the actual workers.
A lot of this is just "welcome to our world", private sector workers have been going through all this for some time now.
Where I work, it's called "flex time" and they can ask people to work less hours or day as needed. It's usually offered on a voluntary basis and it's almost never a problem to find someone who wants to go home early or take a day off.
Some people actually prefer working 4 days instead of 5 at least for a while and it beats a massive layoff.

HeyJude is a dem stooge and dream girl. We already knew that Obama did a bad job in his first term but its people like HeyJude that voted him back in to play politics with our lives.

Exactly! And they had to cut back on spending way more than 2%. It's Obamas turn now. Welcome to the real world.

Well I can't speak for all government workers but the few I do know have it good compared to private sector workers.
Find it annoying when someone makes claims about government workers that you dispute. Now you should know how small business owners feel after Obama attacked them this past year.

If Bush hadn't cut off revenue with this poorly planned "tax cuts" and flushed $4 trillion down the middle east toilet with his incredibly stupid wars, the deficit and the economy would both be on solid ground right now.
But he DID take those simple-minded actions and to this day, the GOP and its Dubyite apologists are still trying to convince the rational sector of the American public that they know what they're doing and that we should listen to them.
As long as it is federal government jobs, I'm OK with it.
Explain how an automatic raise in spending each year, reduces spending that takes place today. No one is going to lose their job over this. They will just not be able to add people to the free for all. How will people lose jobs, when the spending will be the same as it is today?
Again, you're wrong.
Federal budgets for Fy13 were at FY10 levels.
Do you understand that there inherently governmental jobs and the private industry contracts cost between 3-5 times as much as a federal worker.
Don't let facts stop you.
