Leave it to the morons running the US to make budget cuts that make absolutely no sense. The cuts will hardly do anything to really tackle the deficit problems because they don't strongly address the issues of social security, medicare/caid, and military spending which are the real drivers of America's debt problem. The cuts hurt things like academic research and development much, much more. It's amazing the stupidity running this country. Investment in scientific R and D has long been a job creator for this economy, yet we find ourselves today taking money out of cancer, AIDs, and renewable energy research. Stupid, just stupid.

Addressing social security and medicar reform is political suicide. The other side will vilify you with the full force of the media behind it which the useful idiots will lap up. They all know this. That is why nothing ever gets done. The pentagon put foreward a budget trimming half a trillion but it's one of those ten year plans that will never come to fruition I'm sure like all the rest.

To reduce the deficit we need to have smart spending cuts, entitlement reforms, and tax reform that raises more revenue. That is how you reduce the deficit.

all too true. there are many things that could have, and should have, been cut first, but the president wanted to make the sequester hurt to vilify the republicans.

Sure, if politicians decides to cut say White House tours while on the other hand giving $250 million to Egypt, yes that would be a stupid thing to do.

Notice immediately after the spending cuts (cut to increased spending only), the Dow index rose and unemployment rates fell to 2008 levels.

It's really time to stop the sky is falling rhetoric. The economy is doing great.

Those killer cuts is a direct attack on the economic rights of the American people. Austerity was rejected last election with Romney going down but Obama is from the Wall Street wing of the Democratic party so he is clearly a austerity ghoul who wants to cut and he will do it thru death by a thousand cuts.
