In December 2012, as many as 47,782,000 Americans received food stamps.
Even during the financial crisis in 2008, the figure was only 28,223,000 on average.

At least I think we should change the culture a little bit. The media should tell people it is a shame for adults to live on food stamps. Hollywood should make a movie to accuse such individuals of damaging US economy and culture.
Well, I know they are mostly liberal so....

I remember the Reagan years, we had weekly and even daily news reports about the poor, hungry, homeless and unemployed Americans struggling to get by in the first Reagan term. Now we have an even worse economy, with a poverty rate at a 50-60 year high, and the highest gasoline prices ever, and yet, for the most part the media stays completely away from any references to the struggling poor in America.

BTW, there was a reason why there was a stigma in society attached to single mothers, men with ten baby mommas, being on welfare or even receiving government cheese. All of those are situations where we do not want our citizens to find themselves in.

In the liberal mind, there should be no stigma attached to anything, everyone gets a trophy, even if all you did was sign up to play, and never bothered to show up, you deserve a trophy.

It's all about "the recovery" and good economic statistics.
Just give everyone an EBT card and keep the allowance topped off each month and no one will notice the difference between that and your bank card.

How about "propaganda promoter"? He's suggesting Hollywood should be pressured into making films to satisfy his particular political agenda.

One of the biggest reasons food stamp usage has increased is because a greater percentage of eligible people have started using it since it started being given on cards, which lowers peoples' shame.

It's ok to dig on liberals, we expect that.

I wished you'd provide another statistic, like, how many of those people voted for republicans and how many voted for democrats.

Because my spouse's hours were cut where she works {a nursing facility} and because her hours are always shortened because of a low census population in the nursing facility, we as a couple are eligible for exactly $21.00 in EBT benefits, but we chose not to accept that benefit. Our landlord also recently raised our rent by $35.00 a month, and my spouse hasn't had a wage increase since 2011, and when she did in 2011, it was 1%.

We are both liberals. We both vote for the democratic party. We will vote for the D party again too, because we know how bad things really were and could be under republican rule. The R party is the absolute worst of the two evils.

Eating and therefore supporting food growers and producers damages US economy and culture how exactly?

And you do understand that what happened in 2008 was like a boulder rolling down hill right? Took a little time to pick up speed, but when it did, it crushed everything in its path. It has just now started to slow down.

I am guessing the OP thinks people who can't buy food should just be hungry. I'm very glad to live in a country (America) where we do not allow our citizens to starve.

Never thought I'd see a figure that high.

Money well spent. Far better than blowing it on the Military.

There is 1 job available for every 3.3 job seekers so this is a very humane program. http://www.epi.org/publication/job-o...ghtly-january/

Thank you liberals for leading the way again. The SNAP program cost about 65 Bil in 2010, 1.8% of the total Federal budget.
