It was a voluntary move by Lego after some complaints. I don't see the problem with it. Lego is free to do whatever it wants. Personally, I think it was a diplomatic move to respect anyone who might have been offended. Why create unnecessary tension among customers?

Jabba's Palace had been scheduled to end production in 2013
(the life cycle of most 'custom' Lego products is 3 years)

It's stupid. Lego shouldn't allow themselves to be bullied. Besides which, any complaints should go to Lucasfilm
