This entire board is filled with straw man arguments. Both major parties have been corrupted by special interests, some of which are foreign. Neither of them care for the vast majority of people in this country.

Anything less than advocating to vote all of them out of office as a start is just wasting time. Come to think of it, this post is probably just wasting time given the superficial content on here.

As it so happens, a lot of us agree but it's hard to get beyond the partisan blinders here.

I stopped playing the partisan game a long time ago. Want real change? Stop voting D's and R's. There are other options. Do your research, and don't let the Lamestream media do your thinking for you!

Couldn't have said it better myself. And some actually believe in bigger government.

This is just ridiculous. An exception to the rule would be a 3rd party candidate winning. Cruz, who I have had dealing with before being elected is good ole boy just the same.

So the problem is the two major parties. Presumably then, what we need is a political constellation with a wider range of choices: not the present duopoly, but several viable and serious political parties.

Let's not be foolish or waste our time. Let's seriously consider how to achieve this objective. We have a political duopoly why? In the first place, because in many states, electoral laws either greatly favor the two established parties or place great obstacles before any alternative parties' efforts to gain a place on the ballot. So first, we have to gain control of about 30 state legislatures, so that we can then change those states' electoral laws. What we'll need is something like the British or Canadian system: anyone can have a place on the ballot, as long as they pony up a deposit of, let's say, $10,000 for Congressional seats, refundable only if they gain at least 5% of the votes cast.

Then, the other chief reason for the duopoly is our first-past-the-post voting system. So, the next thing we need to do is change the constitution not once but twice. First, an amendment to change the method of electing the president by abolishing the Electoral College and replacing it with a direct popular system of voting with run-offs for the leading candidates, such as France's method of electing her presidents.

Second, an amendment to change the method of electing Congress to a similar system of PR voting. Maybe something like Australia's, with compulsory voting, full-preference instant-runoff voting for the House of Representatives and group ticket proportional voting for the Senate?

And of course, since we've gained control of about 30 state legislatures, these amendments will pose no great difficulty. But we do have to get those legislatures first: so, a massive national political organization with limitless funding. I'd suggest starting soon: this is going to take awhile.

But how do you accomplish ANY of that when the media is bought and paid for by the two parties?
