Since the weather was beautiful today, we decided to go out for breakfast at a favorite restaurant of ours with outdoor dining, owned by two decorated war veterans, one a Viet Vet, and the other a vet of the Israeli Army.
The people (in their 70's - 80's & dressed to the 9's) having a conversation at the table next to us caused a bit if a stir. We did not say anything, but a few others in the restaurant did. Here are some of their more "juicy" quotes"
"My grandchildren have been brainwashed. They're Liberals."
"I know two people who are atheists. They think they should have rights, too, even without going to church."
"Did you see that car in the lot that had an Obama sticker on it? Where did they come from?
And the statement that finally evoked a response from someone:
"I'm glad my kids already went to college. I wouldn't let them go now. You know what the colleges are doing? They hire only Liberal professors & they're only allowed to teach liberal things." THis is where someone else chimed in & asked what their kids majored in. A woman answered "My son is an electrical engineer," which prompted the response "Can you please tell me the difference between Liberal Calculus & Conservative Calculus?" The woman responded "That's my point - my son could not have become an engineer if he had to go to college today." Several others joined in at this point , some even laughing, but fortunately, nothing nasty happened. I guess the blue skies & brilliant sunshine helped!
Considering the proprietors of this restaurant are way to the Left of pretty much anyone I know, I think these people may have picked the wrong restaurant.

Restaurants are ideologically driven now? Only liberals allowed at 'liberal' restaurants and so forth?
In a Democrat's perfect world- where everybody is placed in a box and sorted by color- I guess that's how it would be.
For the record unless those vets were talking so loudly that it disturbed other people's meals I think it's rude for sanctimonious strangers to interrupt a private conversation that had nothing to do with them.
In their 70's and 80's? Yeah, it's sad but the mind starts to slip. My own parents are in their 80's, in good health and active, but I have to ignore half of what they say about everything because they still think the "news reporters" on the radio are "news reporters".

Later that day those two seniors were spotted at a Tea Party rally, railing against that Commie Socialist President Obama and demanding that he keep his hands off their Medicare.

It's a sad truth that some old people just like to COMPLAIN, and they look at the past through rose colored glasses. If they can't find something real to complain about, then they just make stuff up. I've told my children that if I ever get to that point--where I'm a crabby old lady with a complete lack of realistic perspective--they need to drop me off on a remote island somewhere so I don't share all that negativity with the world.
I think it is rude too, jumping in on a private conversation, no matter how much you disagree. I hear stuff often that makes me want to roll my eyes and/or puke but I mind my own business.
My mother is 70. She seems to be more easily influenced these days by what she hears on the radio and it's annoying. She is always sending me emails that reflect some nonsense she heard and has been twisted to meet a political agenda and whereas she never would have blindly followed stuff ten years ago, now she does. She is still able to admit to an error if I show her facts, but then later accuses me of being arrogant because I "think I am so smart". Can't win.

You missed it - the Vets were the restaurants owners, not the people talking loudly in a crowded area.
And, "for the record," at this particular restaurant, as at many of the restaurants in the area, people are often friendly & converse with strangers. Happens all the time.
No ideology to the food (Unless you think serving Blintzes, Latkes and Bagels & Lox ideological), but the restaurant's owners make no effort to hide their political beliefs through posters all over their walls.
