My question is, do we even know if the killer was making a political statement?

That's what I find kind of odd -- there doesn't seem to be any message at all. A terrorist group would be letting the world know by now because otherwise people will decide it was a lone nut maybe on or off his meds and won't fear the terrorist group.
The only thing is if there are a series of bombings and then they inform us so we can fear them. There just isn't any message in this so far.
Oh, I'm not making any accusations directed at any specific individuals or groups. I'm just doing what I would assume that many law enforcement and federal officials are doing - looking at the date to see what sorts of historic events coincide with the date, since many terrorists and "lone wolf types" tend to put great stock in anniversary dates.
I have this twisted theory that the Muslims/ME terrorist use our own words to send a message. Like 911, it was America you have a emergency since that is the number we all dial when that is the case. Now by bombing the marathon I think the message is if you think you are stopping us you are in for a marathon. What do you think? does it make any sense or am I smoking to much weed?
I think it's a "lone wolf" attack by someone living legally in the US. I find the timing interesting - not only is April 15 Patriots Day in Massachusetts, it's also the IRS Tax deadline.
For that matter, here are some other significant events from history, which happened on April 15:
I know that if I were law enforcement, I'd be looking at EVERY significant historical event of April 15. I mean, obviously whoever did this is an evil sicko, so I'd look at all possibilities, which I'm sure is what's being done.
I have no opinion yet on whether or not the event is tied to Islamic extremists, or if it's domestic, whether the perpetrator(s) is right or left wing - or somewhere in between. But I do bet that it's a domestic attack by a lone wolf type.
Of course, I could be completely off target. Like most other Americans, I'm simply curious, and speculating.

Im just glad I dont know any one with birthdays or special dates this week. I also need to mark in my calendar in future years to not plan anything.
