When claiming that it was the Republican Party that voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 keep in mind that:
That percentage of Northern Democrats who voted for the Civil Rights Act out voted Northern Republicans 94% to 85% in the House and 98% to 84% in the Senate,
That in raw numbers more Democrats voted for the Civil Rights act than Republicans, 152 to 138 in the House and 44 to 23 in the Senate.
That when it came to Southern Republicans voting for the Civil Rights Act, 100% of Republicans in both Houses voted against passage.

No one works harder then me or my family. But some folks arent cut out for work - too stupid or whatever. I work with my mind - so its a relaxed job. But what if someone hasnt got that solid education, that family network, Honestly, if some dude wants to collect a check for a bit, it's cool.
All I ask is that they live far enough away not to be eyesores and when I have kids, they are polite enough not to send their spawn to the schools my kids will attend. I dont mind shelling out some taxes to get that.

Thanks for the history lesson, but you left out the part about Virginia Democrat Rep. Howard Smith who insisted that sex be included in title VII in the hopes that equal employment opportunities for women would derail the bill.
Just out of curiosity, what's the purpose of starting this thread, Ovcatto? We're talking about a group of people who, for the most part, aren't even alive today. Exactly what do their racial views have to do with the current political scene? None of the current legislators, either Democrat or Republican, were involved in that vote. It seems that your contention is that because Republicans from 50 years ago didn't vote as favorably as Democrats for affirmative action there should be some sort of repercussion for Republicans today. What I don't understand is why.
Extremely typical NIMBY attitude from a left liberal . I pretend to care about minorities and those on welfare, just stay the f00k away from me and my white upper middle class neighborhood and schools
I'd prefer a rebranding of the black family unit to the pre-1964 CRA days over a GOP rebranding. Think of all the good things that would come from that!
When claiming that it was the Republican Party that voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 keep in mind that:...
I was a Republican in the early 1980s, before they switched their fundamental values from compassionate conservativism to selfish greed-mongering and religious reactionaryism. Referring to the history of the Republican Party going back before Reagan is like the United States claiming as part of their history the values of the Iroquois nation.
