President Obama is presiding over one of the most blatant examples of mismanagement in modern times. Private enterprise has always had to figure out how to get the job done with less resources, increase productivity, and deal with budget cuts. When times get tough, the grocer doesn't just close Aisle 5; the car dealer doesn't make customers wait, the accounting firm doesn't take every tenth day off.

The supposedly sequester-driven chaos in airline travel is a selfish, arrogant, petty way to screw with the citizenry. The government deserves to be starved, after this amazing show of bad faith.

Cost cutting in private enterprise never makes things less consumer friendly. I never have to wait on hold for 45 minutes to reach a person, ring up and bag my own damn groceries because there is no express lane open and the regular lanes all are 15 people deep, wander the store for 20 minutes and still never find an employee who can assist me.

Hell, when I started college my dad wanted to set up a monthly transfer of money from his USBank account to my USBank account. Turns out to save money, they didn't train bank tellers how to perform basic banking functions like that - instead the request was sent to a central processing center where they would process it within 6-8 weeks (well, the request wan't actually sent - my dad closed all his USBank accounts there on the spot).

In a word: baloney! Labor is largely a function of demand in both the private and public sectors. If times are "tough" it is due to a decline in demand and, in most cases, fewer workers are needed to meet the reduced demand - i.e. layoffs. But, there is no reduction in demand for air travel these days. In fact, the number of flights and passengers is increasing. But the Republicans in Congress have failed to put the interests of the nation ahead of their reelection bids and forced the FAA to meet this increased demand with fewer people. The result is rather predicatable: delays. Blame the Republicans, if you must blame anyone. Obama can't appropriate money.

It's illegal for air traffic controllers to strike but the government can furlough em?

What is ironic is one of the reasons they went on strike back in the day was because they wanted a four day work week. I guess they finally get it.

You are exactly what Obama loves. Dear leader is the one who came up with the sequester, proposed the sequester and signed it. Now you blame republicans. Just like he drew it up. How does it feel to be one of them??

ummm, exactly, except for the fact that there are less air travelers now than in 2007, and the FAA budget has increased since then.

The American people are totally being jerked around by the FAA. A strong leader would have put a stop to this nonsense.

The airlines should build their own airports with their own staff.

[without taxpayer money, of course]

It's a part of his Organize for American campaign... in backfire mode. His only objective is to get more Mismanagement into Congress so he can shore up his lame duck agenda. He keeps it up, by 2015 Congress will be able to pass any law it likes... without his approval. Then the Republican controlled government can vote themselves into a telecommute job.

you blame the republicans for the sequester, but the reality is that obama wanted it, and got it in the budget deal. and when congress made noises about changing it or eliminating it, obama vowed to veto ANY attempt to do so. now that the sequester is in fact reality, obama is throwing a hissy fit and tryinf to blame the republicans for something he created and wanted. he could have moved money around and made things easy but he didnt. he intentionally made it so that the people got screwed and that hopefully they would blame the republicans. but this is going to backfire in obamas face as there is too much information out there as to who set up the sequester, and who manages the sequester. and the $85 billion in the sequester is a drop in the bucket compared to the entirety of the federal budget.

sorry but you fail the poeple know better.

This is a key weapon big government uses to protect itself. When cuts are called for, cut the services that cause the most annoyance and pain to the public, so there is a hue and cry to restore the funding. Never mind cutting the vast waste and corruption.
