If these communities want the shows so badly, let them pay the military for the service. Just like when someone gets rescued in a dangerous place and has to re-imburse the Coast Guard, let these fairs - that seem to be quite profitable - re-imburse the military. Why should I the taxpayer subsidize these business owners in small towns around the country - do I come to them to pay for MY business when things are slow in a given month?
All of them will be gone forever after 18 months. For the few who are in any of the precision teams, continual practice is an absolute necessity as a disaster preventative.
It was great while they were around... I saw the Blue Angels twice, and they were a very impressive display of our military aircraft and the skills of our flying warriors.
Maybe one day my grandkids will get a chance to see the Canadian team. Or the British team, or the French. Or the German team. They are all good too.
Personally, I'm sorry we decided to put a price tag on our impressive displays of national pride.

Why, because every penny they spend already comes from the tax-payer. The air-shows are a recruiting tool that benefits the military. I love the Ft Lauderdale air and sea show, but everyone here understood it had to be canceled this year. It actually used to be sponsored by McDonalds but I do not know how much they pitched in, and how much the military got out of it.

Maybe we can really show some national pride by the private sector paying for the show. You would have to agree this is a un needed perk? Are we so pathetic that we need the gvt to put on a air show?
