Exactly, which is why saying "mother and father" may not be PC, since some kids have two moms, or two dads.
Is it silly? Yes, but so are many of the new rules of political correctness. Somewhere a gay couple will be furious when their child be subjected to the "mother and father"assumptions, and in the world of political correctness, it only takes one person to feel offended, for the government to demand everyone else change to accommodate their wishes.
Political correctness? How about just PRACTICAL NEED? If I have 2 moms, which one do I put as my mother on the form? And where do I put my other mom? Do we really need to have students bothering the financial aid office with questions like that when all you have to do is change it to PARENT, then everyone knows what to fill out where while the government gets the additional benefit of counting another income that might have gone undocumented? You are so narrowly focused on "appeasing" someone else that you are not thinking IMO.
They are just all butt hurt that gays are included as parents too. They really do not want us to have any association with anything they deem precious, like marriage or being parents. Ah that word, parent, it encompasses father, mother, grand parents, guardians, gay parents of either sex. Come on all of you moaners and groaners, if you need it to say mother or father on a form to make you sure that you are the parents and are opposite sex parents and the names " John and Elizabeth" or what ever, then you really have problems. Would you rather they spend more printing up forms for straight parents, one for lesbian parents, one for gay male parents, one for single parents and one for gaurdians. One form for all, one form fits all, it covers all bases, simple.
I'm about to the point that I will let the government consider me however it wants, HOWEVER I will take full advantage of however they choose to address me, and my family.
Don't want to include my partner as a legal parent? Fine, but you can't include her income either.
Don't want to consider me and my partner as a couple, or allow us to get married? Fine, but then I'm legally a single mother with no income.
Don't want to allow me access to the state and federal benefits and protections of marriage? I'll take advantage of ALL of the benefits of being a single mother. My partner will too.
Within a few years, it will become improper to even mention the words "father" or "mother" in a public setting, because it will be viewed as you trying to force your conservative beliefs and agenda onto others.
Honor students will not only be cautioned against thanking Jesus Christ in their graduation speech, but also cautioned against thanking "mom and dad." If you think this is absurd, 25 years ago they would have thought banning students from thanking Jesus would have been absurd.
Another inane comment. A child with two dads will call then both Dad, a child with two moms will call them both Mom, a child with a dad and a mom will call them Mom and Dad. This is all about making a form apply to everyone, parents can be Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Godparents or combinations of the above. The thanking jesus or god is about separation of church and state, go to public school, then it is public, people of all religions attend and should not be subject to the religion of others in that arena, want to thank your god or diety of choice, then do it on your own time, not for everyone else to pervue. As some else has said, you all just want to have a poutfest, get your underwear all knotted up for no reason at all.
You'll have to ask the PC crowd that question. All I know is when they start moving their agenda, and rolling that ball of political correctness down the hill, there is no stopping it.

Now, it says PARENT 1 and PARENT 2 and you check a box underneath that says mother, father or unknown, so everyone can fill out the form... even if you have 2 moms or 2 dads or don't know where one of your parents even is. SEE how that works? Notice how much of a non-issue it is? There we were being all inclusive and stuff and it didn't even register. Like you wouldn't have noticed the same damn change on the financial aid form either if you hadn't been told to be outraged.
