I was watching that show to "Catch a Predator"........I was listening to the excuses about why these guys do what they do when they agree to meet girls that are younger than 18 yrs old......Well in my mind i think there is a couple reasons for why there are more and more "predators" now a days...

First off i think that the technology of the internet makes things easier to communicate nowadays..

Next i think that the influx of porn on the internet is changing the morals of people that view pornography and more people are becoming desensitized

and my last point and most conterversial point is that it is harder for men to meet and get to know women in this day and age so they turn to under age girls instead.....

So i wouldn't say that "ALL" of these guys are beyond being helped even though some are sick, but i think legal aged women's expectations of guys nowadays with the income/price of housing and necessaties in life being out of proportion have made things hard for these guys that get caught on this show......

What do you honestly think?......and why do you personally think that these guys do this stuff?

I am not saying that these guys aren't wrong.....I am just trying to find out the cause of why they do it and what goes on in thier minds.....what is your belief.........please give a real answer and not the usual "oh they are just sick guys".....because most of us believe that anyways.....i am looking more for an answer of where this all starts for these guys and why they do it

We know that the guys that do this are to blame....for sure but what other factors are contributing to the blame really?

Thank you,

I'm not sure there ARE "more predators" these days. Back in the day, it seems like it was much more common for relatives - say, an uncle - to molest family members, and the family would simply sweep it under the rug or pretend that nothing was going on. Nowadays, that isn't tolerated, and such crimes are reported. It wasn't so long ago that kids were told to "just shut up" about abuse for the sake of ideas like 'family harmony.'

So, I'm not at all convinced that things have gotten worse in that regard.

Maybe, but that is a different subject.....that is family members molesting each other...these days it's people that other people meet on chat rooms...and there are more things like this happening nowadays

Are there? What are the statistics on stranger-to-stranger rapes?

You're saying things have gotten better nowadays.....is that why the media is feeding off of it more?

I disagree. This whole thing has all the marks of a moral panic.

My alternative hypothesis: they had sex predators in the past, but it was easier to get away with it back then because communications were poorer and forensic science was less developed. After all they've had serial killers for centuries, though often this behavior was attributed to werewolves, vampires, or other supernatural entities.

The majority of sexual predators don't prey on kids because they are desperate, either. They do it because they have a distorted sense of sexuality, often due to abuse or inappropriate sexual experiences when they were a child. Many are "deeply in the closet" about their sexual desires and have "normal" relationships with women as a way to fake it. Psychologists would say it is a "lack of insight", they don't know why they do what they do.

OTOH, some are attracted to kids because they are intellectually challenged or careless and unaware that having sex with a minor is a crime. Not all "sex offenders" target pre-pubescents. Some are just guilty of statutory rape.

I think the obsession of the MSNBC network with this vulgar affliction encourages a form of voyeurism.

I would also wager that this show (which seems to be on nearly every evening) has inspired a whole bunch of perverted copycats. We live in a "monkey see, monkey do" culture, which seems to spawn an increasing number of monkeys.

Basically im wondering what is in the minds of these guys who feel the need to go after younger girls in an illegal way?......the other arguments could go either way depending on who has the most info documented on the subject......why do you guys think these guys do this?

Why do they do it? Because they think they can get away with it. Historically, girls were married off in most cultures after puberty, roughly between ages 12 and 15. The idea of making 18 the age of consent for sex is a very modern concept, so it should be no surprise that the law often comes into conflict with historical human nature.
