That's just a materials issue, already there are 3d printers that can print titanium, it won't be that long until people are able to print guns capable of firing thousands of rounds. China is already printing titanium parts for fighter planes.

In this latest case they are printing a modified lower receiver, it will probably hold up to hundreds if not thousands of rounds since the stress will be contained by the steel upper that can be purchased through the mail - just like you could do with entire guns before the gun control act of 1968.
