WASHINGTON (AP) - Some of President Barack Obama's political appointees, including the Cabinet secretary for the Health and Human Services Department, are using secret government email accounts they say are necessary to prevent their inboxes from being overwhelmed with unwanted messages, according to a review by The Associated Press.
The AP decided to publish the secret address for Sebelius - KGS2(at)hhs.gov - over the government's objections because the secretary is a high-ranking civil servant who oversees not only major agencies like the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services but also the implementation of Obama's signature health care law. Her public email address is Kathleen.Sebelius(at)hhs.gov.
So, hopefully Sebelius will get another, double-secret email address, and no one will blab it to the Associated Press. If keeping separate email addresses - one for the public and one for internal use only - helps our government work more efficiently, I'm all for it.
That's the issue, now she needs another account. As I said redact the actual username for the account, problem solved. There is really no reason anyone in the public needs to know what the actual name on the account is, you just assign it a generic name for public disclosure.

One doesnt need to blab it to the press in order to obtain email addresses.. the Freedom of Information Act would reveal it.

Exactly, its why Bush wouldnt use an email address (or so it was reported), he didnt want any trace left. I remember when the left made a big deal over Obama using a blackberry because he's "cool".

There is a reason. The FBI/NSA/CIA are allowed to rifle through our emails, voicemails and phone calls as they see fit, obviously linking us by various indicators. So they know our email addresses, phone numbers and the contents of the aforementioned.
The crucial role government must understand is that it is subordinate to the people, if we must endure (wrongfully and illegally I might add) those kinds of intrusion then they must also reciprocate.
Her email should be known, the contents be public knowledge within a reasonable amounts of time and any investigators on the federal level should have immediate and unfettered access to anything they touch regardless of ANYTHING.
I still literally cringe when I see droves of useful idiots prop up the notion that the government is some almighty power that deserves this free reign over the subjugated masses.
