What do you expect when we've turned campaigns into an arms race--you have to have larger and larger amounts of money to even be competitive in a race?
The only way to fix this is to change the rules for how campaigns are financed. Until then, we'll keep selling elected officials to the highest bidder.
There is another option, and that is for the voters to do more investigative work on those who are on the ballot.
And where did THEIR money come from? Oh yeah, taxpayers via paychecks from.....the US government.
So... government employees shouldn't be allowed to participate in politics?
