Does the 'single' in single mom imply marital status or just relationship status. In other words if a woman gets pregnant by her boyfriend who she is still with and lives together but is not married to, does she count as a single mom?

Dropping your seed and leaving works better for reptiles than humans.

Eliminate the bastardization rate factor and crime and poverty rate differences between whites and blacks converge.

That's a good point. Some people may be too poor for a wedding?

"unwed" and single are 2 different things

My cousin and her Partner have been together for 25 years and their 5 children range from 24 to 13.

by definition, she is "unwed" but not single, and her children are not fatherless.

While the stat for black single motherhood is jaw dropping, the fastest growth in the last 2 decades in terms of single motherhood occurred among white women in their 20's. Be aware this is the same period of time when Congress imposed new restrictions on Welfare. These births are not about welfare.

Despite these stats, 92 % of 4 year college educated women, regardless of race, are married when they have children.

Either is staying engaged in the child's life or child support.

Exactly 92%? Regardless of race? Got a link for all this?

Anyways, http: / /www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr61/nvsr61_01.pdf says 'unmarried'. Not 'single'.

yawn.

someone has already done the research on this, referred to as fragile families (unmarried parents).

Yes, they're often lower income.
Yes, they want to get married but think they should wait until they are more financially stable (and yes, this is backwards because having children ain't cheap).
Yes, the parents expect to stay together after the child's birth but often they don't work out. (referred to as the "magic moment").

What else. Oh blacks tend to get married at later points in time and, in the meantime, cohabitant more often.

This: http://www.americanvalues.org/pdfs/babyfathers.pdf
will have all the info you need if you're REALLY interested in the subject and just aren't looking to ruffle feathers.

I believe so from a statistical stand point. Those live in relationships are also more likely to dissolve than a marriage.

Got a link? Thanks. Not sure why, if all of this is so well known, no one can supply a simple link.
