^^ What he said. If you or your parents never applied then you don't have one. You don't need one either unless you want an American license for something. (such as professional license or driver license) Also, remember as a US citizen the IRS wants you to report your worldwide income and failure to do so will result in large fines if they discover you haven't been.

Who said they don't? I'm not sure on the technicals, but corporations only pay tax on US source income. The best thing you can do as a company is find a way to have very, very little US source income, while still maximizing sales.
One example would be if you had patents, the smart thing to do would be to sell the patents to an offshore subsidiary and then have the US company pay royalties to the subsidiary. Instead of 35% tax rate you wouldn't pay anything if you have a subsidiary in the Caribbean or 12-17% in Ireland/Hong Kong.
