Here's hoping she can fillibuster the hell out of the bill. I am sure there is more media attention this time round and the good guvna has both his boots and spurs firmly entrenched in his mouf.
If the Republicans are honest about this bill ONLY preventing late-term abortions, they would re-write the bill to remove the conditions for clinics performing abortions. They would provide funding to ensure there are well-equipped and monitored clinics capable of providing abortions (before 20 weeks) in every area in Texas. As it stands, women in El Paso would have to get to Austin to have an abortion. Women in the Valley (the Rio Grande Valley for non-Texans sticking their noses in this debate) would have to get to Houston. Many women who have abortions do so because they already have a bunch of kids and can't make ends meet. How are they going to afford the trip, several nights in a hotel, etc.? Many women who have abortions do not have access to birth control. Many women who have abortions do so because they have been abandoned by the father. I personally am opposed to abortion and have never had one. But that is my choice and the issue here is not dictating to other people, not allowing Republican BIG Government to stick their noses into other people's private lives. Republicans make me laugh with their stories about how intrusive Democrats' alleged "big government" is. Nothing more intrusive than these laws to restrict women's rights. I fully support a counter-measure: all men who want to purchase Viagra should have similar measures inflicted on them. After all, the last thing society needs is more horny old men.
The Republicans cut funding for children after they are born. Let them show they have as much compassion AFTER birth.
Another Republican Senator dingbat (desperate that he didn't get the attention Wendy Davis did) wants to add in a bit to the bill about suppressing the abortion pill - great. These crazy people will do anything not to get primaried by other crazy candidates.
As it stands, the Republican Party's pandering to extremists means that it will never again win a national election. The wacky "tea party" has about 20% support from extreme right-wingers. In order to win national elections, they need to consolidate with more moderate voters - something they will never do when they allow the dialogue to be written by people of dubious mental health with no common sense and just a desperate need for attention (Perry, Cruz).
Prior to the filibuster, Perry vetoed a bill that would have ensured equal pay for equal work - a bill which had BIPARTISAN support. Perry thinks he'll be President by pandering to the extreme right-wing. I'm sure he'll just try to run for President again, making a fool of himself again. He is so stupid he doesn't even realize how stupid he is. Amazing. To quote LBJ, Perry couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time.
The funniest thing about this whole episode was seeing how Perry and Cruz just couldn't STAND a little woman getting more attention than they do. Their misogyny is flagrant and any Texas woman who supports them has to be so self-loathing, she needs to see a shrink..
I just heard on the radio that wendy daivs is gonna try to do another marathon fillibuster to thwart the passing of the abortion bill.
Frankly, i hope it passes. I shudder to think of people promoting abortion as the new contraception. Might as well do away with the bc pill, day after pill and rubbers then.

just to be clear, abortions preformed prior to 24 weeks are not late-term abortions. the 25 week begings the 3rd trimester of gestation. any legal abortions preformed after the 24th week are are late-term and rare.
Here's to hoping there's a Mass Exodus to Vermont!
