Has big government worked? For all their regulations are we actually better off? Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are broke or nearly broke. The New Deal, Great Society Programs failed to eliminate poverty and we have higher poverty rates than ever before. Obama care was sold as the greatest thing in the history of our country and now Obama is suspending it for another year for the business community. Massive illegal immigration because the government refuses to security the border and chase down illegals that overstay their VISA's. Our education system is a disaster despite hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes collected to support it.
What works that big government is in charge of? The EPA is coming out with massive new regulations, some of which go after U.S. Navy ships regulating the run off from the ships from rain. The IRS admits to targeting people based on their political beliefs. NSA is wiretapping everyone in the hope to catch a potential terrorist. The FBI had the Boston Bomber in their grasp but let him go. The FBI refused to search a computer of one of the 9-11 terrorists prior to 9-11.
Nobody in government was fired, demoted or jailed after 9-11. Big government created a new agency and rewarded itself with promotions, pay raises etc....
Corporations are for the sole purpose of profit. No other reason. At times they come up with good products and do little harm. At others, they do incredible harm, to workers, to the country they sell or manufacture in, to the environment, they cheat, they steal, they'll make profits at any cost to anyone, they are without any form of morality, without any form of ethics, because they exist to make profits and no other reason, and yes, they manipulate government, more than anywhere in the United States. And most importantly, all the voters of the U.S., while they can vote in their govt., cannot vote or have any say in the corporations that do business here.
Without business, there is no such thing as a worker - just peasants.
Too many reasons to count. Here are a few of the reasons so many Americans hate labor laws, fear "government," and anything that a government does to serve its people in times of need:
Tunnel vision due to a poor self-education and extremely low intellectual curiosity;
A servile mentality;
A very poor self-concept coupled with unquestioning blind admiration of the rich (regardless of how the rich got to be rich);
A whole slew of really sick ideas such as, Manifest Destiny, "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" even if you're ill, old, have a low I.Q., have met with tragedy, etc.;
The marriage of a large political party (the GOP) to the evangelical churches, and the intentions of applying the evangelical churches' beliefs as the law of the nation;
A jingoistic worship of the country's symbols (flags, songs, etc) while detesting huge groups of citizens of the same nation;
AND MUCH MORE.
So you support stuff like this:
Quote:
Hundreds of New York City public school teachers accused of offenses ranging from insubordination to sexual misconduct are being paid their full salaries to sit around all day playing Scrabble, surfing the Internet or just staring at the wall, if that's what they want to do.
Because their union contract makes it extremely difficult to fire them, the teachers have been banished by the school system to its "rubber rooms" _ off-campus office space where they wait months, even years, for their disciplinary hearings.
The 700 or so teachers can practice yoga, work on their novels, paint portraits of their colleagues _ pretty much anything but school work. They have summer vacation just like their classroom colleagues and enjoy weekends and holidays through the school year.

You see only the dark side.
What is your answer? Venezuela's model? Government owns everything and produces everything? Sorry there isn't a single existing example where that model works well.
Reading on this forum, it seems like most Americans hate labor laws, government mandate laws, hate when the government mandates any paid days off, socialism, against national healthcare, etc. unlike in Europe?
People being against socialism, what's their reason? Any of them low-income?
How to win an argument:
1) Invent a definition of your opponent's position
2) Criticize that definition
3) Your opponent's position is invalid
4) Declare victory
