Food stamps are paying for trans-Atlantic takeout — with New Yorkers using taxpayer-funded benefits to ship food to relatives in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Welfare recipients are buying groceries with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and packing them in giant barrels for the trip overseas

How did they determine half the Caribbean? I didn't see that in their source. But I do see where I can buy a book on Islamaphobia.

I'm not even an Obama fanboy but know that conservatives and the government rallied hard against protests to encourage increased wages and to improve income inequality. There's multiple documentaries from before protests, and multiple visionaries and Economist who have been able to predict the exact economic situation we are in right now. Some did it a full decade before it happened.

The best thing for the American economy is more competition, increased wages or bonuses, and an increased job market. Instead of allowing a few corrupt and/or twisted individuals to hoard hundreds of thousands out of the Economy, we should be creating more jobs that pay well, so that the spending power is increased in our lower and middle income brackets. There's lots of work that could be done.

Can't blame the individuals for doing this - in fact they should be lauded for helping out less fortunate relatives - but the fact that enough people have enough surplus from the program for this to become a thing means that the food stamp program has overshot its purpose as a program to make sure Americans don't have to go hungry and is, to some extent, redistributing money above the degree needed to achieve its intended purpose.

What is the term dear leader uses..............redistribution I believe it is. I hope the folks in DC don't see this article because it won't make em think about cutting back but will encourage them to pile even more of OUR money on so it is redistributed. Only true communists love that and would want their money redistributed all across the globe. Some leader of the US we have working for us.

And "dear leader" is getting pretty lame, at least try to be clever. Do you refer to Fox News or the sorry republicans in congress as your dear leader?

If people hate this country so much that things like this make them so angry, just head on out.
The "If you don't like it you can leave" routine.

it doesnt occur to you that they could be skipping meals in order to fill the bareel as stated. If it is their food to eat, why is it not their food to save.

seems like no one wants a nanny state...unless they are the nanny/
