I constantly hear ignorant conservatives rant about how Socialists want to put everyone on welfare, blah blah blah.

They don't realize that Marxists are for "workers" and have little use for generational leeches and scammers.

Quote:
Lumpenproletariat is a term that was originally coined by Karl Marx to describe that layer of the working class that is unlikely to ever achieve class consciousness and is therefore lost to socially useful production, of no use to the revolutionary struggle, and may actually be an impediment to the realization of a classless society

Marx gives this description of the lumpenproletariat:
Alongside decayed roués with dubious means of subsistence and of dubious origin, alongside ruined and adventurous offshoots of the bourgeoisie, were vagabonds, discharged soldiers, discharged jailbirds, escaped galley slaves, swindlers, mountebanks, lazzaroni, pickpockets, tricksters, gamblers, maquereaux [pimps], brothel keepers, porters, literati, organ grinders, ragpickers, knife grinders, tinkers, beggars — in short, the whole indefinite, disintegrated mass, thrown hither and thither, which the French call la bohème

RWNJs have really no understanding of politics left of the far right. If 1 is far left, 3 is center, and 5 is far right, everyone from 4 to 1 is a leftist according to them. I'm a 3 but I get accused of being a "librul" all the time by our Libertarian (such a false ideology I've come to find out since the general election) Heroes

Well, you're so far into the 5, hell you probably break into the honorary 6 scale so you can't see the forest through the trees. Maybe if you've done your research like I have, you wouldn't be so suckered into Ron Paul's smile and poison. Maybe then you'd understand why I'm a former Libertarian. And no, I'm not into "everything" Progressive lately. The only progressive policies I support are keeping the welfare system intact and taxing Wall St. while giving everyone who earns an income a tax cut to 0%. Wow, I'm such the ******* . You're so far to the right you have no idea what a Progressive is

Are people like Joe the plumber lumpens, by Marx standards?

He is part of the working class, but he will never reach class consciousness

I guess so. I'm not a Marxist (surprise, surprise, my fellow Libertarians) so I wouldn't know , exactly. But, I know people like Joe the Plumber seriously lack class consciousness, supporting policies that don't benefit them but their overlords who do not have their best interests at heart. Hmm, I suppose you can say he's a Lumpen, while the people who are small business owners who think they are "in" with the 0.1% are the Petty Bourgeois, another group who lack class consciousness.

History 101: Marx wasn't a socialist, other than by association. You might want to sit down and read up on the differences between Socialism, Communism, and Marxism.

Well socialists are not necessarily synonymous with Marxists, which are not necessarily synonymous with liberals, which are not necessarily synonymous with progressives.
