I really don't understand why the federal government should provide financial assistance for the vast majority of "disasters" that occur in a state. Wildfires in California are California's responsibility. West was wholly contained in Texas. Sandy affected many areas, but these states should be able to provide for most of their own relief (with private insurance, that exists for that purpose).
Coastlines are national borders - so there is some rationale that justifies more federal involvement. But one reason Sandy relief became such an issue was because Congress had to pass a bill - which generated earmarks/pork and of course politicizing it.
Yarnell is an enclave of aging anti-government types, tea party adherents and RWNJs. They should be proud that their government exercised fiscal restraint in the matter. After all, two-thirds of Arizona's congressional representation and both state senators voted NAY on aid to Sandy victims.
Where did I say that? Read my words and respond to them, dont respond to words I never said.
lol. You're the one who asked why government should duplicate insurance money.
Like I said....make government money available for everyone or no one. Not having insurance doesn't entitle one to mooch off taxpayer money............or it shouldn't.
There should be no FEMA, period. Arguing about who should get confiscated taxpayer money is akin to pirates divvying up the booty of freshly raided ship.
Anyway, government spends our money where the clout will go furthest.
