President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will not meet at the United Nations on Tuesday, senior administration officials said.
The White House had offered to have “an encounter” between the two leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, but Iranian officials ultimately declined.
Rouhani refused to even shake Obama's hand. He skipped Obama's speech, didn't show up at the lunch where Obama had hoped to talk, and refused to meet one on one with Obama. This is so embarrassing. We are now groveling to Iran, and they are laughing at us.

You mean Obama didn't have a chance to bow down to Rouhani?

Color me shocked that neither the the thread title nor OPs comments match anything in the article she posted. Just shocked.
For shame OP.

The OP is another right winger "let's start a thread based on a total lie, and then just run with it even after it's debunked" attempts.

Some people are so uninformed they need a link to lead them through every step.

President Barack Obama’s attempt at direct engagement with Iran’s new president was rebuffed at the United Nations yesterday in a sign of the difficulty he’ll have in putting the U.S. relationship with the Persian Gulf nation on new footing.
On the same day that Obama told world leaders in New York that he welcomed overtures from Iranian President Hassan Rohani and the prospect of resolving a decades-long confrontation, Iranian officials told their U.S. counterparts that the time wasn’t yet right for even a handshake between the two leaders.

Too bad the president didn't meet with the Iranian leader, we could of had right wing threads slamming the president for meeting with him. The far right keeps plenty of ammo to fight on either side. I am more inclined to wait for a concerted effort on the part of both leaders to meet and talk an not passing glances at each other across the dance floor. When that happens I will trade my prius for a big gas hogging Dodge Pick up!

Iran
Still doesn't match the tread title nor your commentary about Iran "laughing" at us. There's no quote of Rouhani saying that "He's not interested." On the contrary,

Quote:
Mr. Rouhani, whose speech followed President Obama’s by more than six hours, also acknowledged Mr. Obama’s outreach to Iran aimed at resolving more than three decades of estrangement and recrimination, and expressed hope that “we can arrive at a framework to manage our differences.”

Trying to meet and having Iran refuse to even shake your hand is even more embarrassing. The last president to meet with Iran was Carter. Iran has less respect for Obama than Carter.

So you think his refusal to shake hands, attend lunch, Obama's speech, or meet privately is a sign that he likes and respects Obama and wants to become friends with the US?
World politics are often power plays, and Russia and now Iran are both winning the chess game.

That was The Shah that met with Carter, not any Iranian President. Now why would you think Iran would' be interested in face to face talks since then? What could have happened?
