It is sad that liberals don't seem to understand the long term dangers involved w/ political correctness and how it slowly erodes the 1st Amendment.

Christopher Hitchens on Freedom of Speech

It is not just the right of the person who speaks to be heard, it is the right of everyone in the audience to listen and to hear, and every time you silence somebody you make yourself a prisoner of your own action because you deny yourself the right to hear something. In other words, your own right to hear and be exposed is as much involved in all these cases as is the right of the other to voice his or her view.
Indeed as John Stuart Mill said: if all of society were agreed on the truth and beauty and value of one proposition, all except one person it would be most important, in fact it would become even more important, that that one heretic be heard because we would still benefit from his perhaps outrageous or appalling view.

That sounds like a desperate perversion of Hitchens comment into a rationalization for comments rife with bigotry, which is the case most of the time when someone derisively refers to political correctness bereft of context.

Not true. Its the freedom of speech to shut people up who are spouting stupidity.

Anyone paying attention to westboro Baptist? Not many, because most folks understand they are loons. No one passed a law againt them, but basically people have shut them up. Freedom riders shut them up at cemeteries during military funerals.

Freedom of speech is the most important freedom individuals have. Although I may not agree with certain protests, I fully support groups such as the WestBoro Baptist Church or even the hateful Black Panther Party to voice their opinion.

People seem to be forgetting that freedom of speech was designed to help the weak's voice be heard, not to help the majority.

I also support the right of a thousand bikers shutting them out of military funerals. Freedom of speech can also mean the public limiting your speech

You have to call the leftists on their own bigotry when they feel free to express their hatred for anything non-minority. In other words, impose the enforced silence on THEM. Of course, they deny their hate, but it's usually there, plain as day, for everyone to see. Their denial makes it worse for them.

Eventually, they lose the freedom of speech they have imposed on others.

Where do you get that this is a liberal issue other than your own personal opinion.

That was my question as well. Censorship and the stifling of voices isn't a partisan issue or one of political ideology.

Right, none of the leftists have ever heard of political correctness.

We don't have a 1st Amendment so we can all discuss the weather. It is there so We The People can discuss very controversial things, including over throw of our own centralized government.
