Not trolling, just being serious. The message of communism is the message of peace and prosperity. Only by learning about Marxism do you begin to understand what democracy really is. Only by learning Soviet, Chinese, and East German history do you learn what it means to be free. People think I am crazy when I tell them my favorite philosopher is Karl Marx and my favorite book is the Communist Manifesto.

I think I am misunderstood.

If anything, learning about communism and dictatorship teaches you more about democracy, capitalism, and freedom than The Wealth of Nations, The Constitution and The Declaration of Independence.

If I had it my way, Marx would be required reading to go with Smith. The horrors of the Soviets would be as emphasized as the horrors of the Nazis.

With that said, you need good teachers to teach communism in a way that it is assists the student in appreciating freedom without inspiring an ideology thay restricts it, which was unfortunately what ultimately happened due to some flaws in the philosophy. Had Marx thought those flaws through, communism would never be associated with the restriction of freedom.

I agree.
Marx version of communism has many good points as a philosophy.
The USA and its system of capitalism/profit uber alles is in its infancy relative to the rest of the worlds systems, and after this short time it can only be called a failure of epic proportion, as we are painfully finding out now. How far will we sink before we figure out thats its in everyones best interest to put humanity before stockholders ?

That's what is seen at the surface. However, if you dig deeper, you see the attempts of him trying to teach a lesson that workers can do more what they usually do.

I'm no expert on communism but it seems to destroy the middle class. Maybe that's what it intends to do, maybe not. But wherever it's been practiced it seems to have failed and left most of it's populace either poor, in prison, or both. Or dead.

That's because the approach to communism is wrong. The ideas that define communism are wrong. But inside that philosophy are lessons that the people need to learn.

You are right , we must learn them, learn why they will always fail and the horrors of such systems...and how to fight back against such a system should it ever come to power now.
